Specification
It is important to assess who your website is for, and how they can most effectively use it. We start by reviewing the users and what they need to achieve while using your site. From this information, we can help you prioritise your needs and ensure that the most critical elements of the site are developed first. (Please allow us to help you avoid any risk of critical features being "bolted on" as an afterthought.) Gathering and prioritising this information helps us to develop an intuitive website that delivers a valuable user experience.
Design
Many aspects of the design of your website will evolve during development. Both you, and we, will learn more about what is possible and what is required as we progress. By communicating throughout the process we will make sure that the final design is not based on an initial "best guess" but incorporates lessons learnt throughout development. Your feedback will guide the development process and together we will produce a website that really meets your needs.
Of course, some things are much more cost effective to complete early on. The visual design of your site (its "look") is one of these things. Our experienced graphic designers deliver striking, functional and flexible designs and will do so for you.
Development
Our development process is iterative and you will find it very interactive. As we develop the website, we will keep you informed, ensuring that you are involved in any choice that involves a trade-off. You will understand your requirements more clearly as the new website grows and as you use it. This feedback process between us is exactly what is needed to produce a truly useful website.
Testing
We test our websites throughout development because we do not want to risk an accumulation of problems. This is not just because it is tedious to do lots of problem-fixing after the bulk of development. It is also because one problem can often hide another. Just as we welcome your feedback throughout development, we also welcome feedback from our automated and ad-hoc testing.
Training
Few websites are entirely static and if you've come to us for a website then you almost certainly want something that you can customise for as your needs change. At the simplest level this means adding new content to your website and editing the existing content. As part of the development of your website, we will reserve some time to train you or whoever else will manage and edit your website to make these tasks as painless as possible.
Deployment
We will deploy your website to your choice of web-server, so long as the server in question has an appropriate configuration. If you do not have a strong preference about where your website is hosted then we highly recommend using our sister company Ecohost. Ecohost's servers are powered by electricity bought from a 100% renewable electricity supplier. As well as being an environmentally-friendly choice, our close relationship with Ecohost means that we have the luxury of a great deal of control over server configuration.
Support & Maintenance
We hope that the deployment of your website will not be the end of your relationship with Ecobee. Your website will be flexible enough to add new content and edit existing content easily. Features will be available that allow you to manage your website in other ways too. We would like to support you, both in your use of the website and in making any bespoke modifications as required.
We would also like to maintain your website. As security weaknesses are discovered in website components, it is essential that fixes are applied to keep your website as secure as possible. This aspect of every website should be reviewed on a regular basis.
To this end, we have a selection of different support and maintenance agreements. The amount of time you need from us will depend on the complexity of the website and how you choose to use it. We can help you choose an appropriate agreement in order to keep things running as smoothly as possible.
